Do you know what your habits are? We all have habits. Do you know if they are taking you towards your goals or away from them?

Understanding your habits is the first step to changing them. It's also the most self loving way to move towards your health goals.

Looking at our habits, we learn to understand how our brains work. When we understand we can move past judgement and instead of setting impossible short term goals that end up defeating us, we can start small and strong and reach goals we never thought possible.

What are your daily habits? The things you do everyday without thinking. Write a list of the usual order of your daily habits.

Then sit back and take a look and reflect and see what you learn.

This activity is the first step to prepare for my FREE 5 day Tiny Self Care Course. This Course will teach you about how your brain works and make it easy to make new habits. Find more info in bio x

What do your boundaries look like?

Do you get to the end of the day and find you haven't had any water to drink?

Or you have been busting to go to the loo since 11am?

Caring for others or working can take us right out of our bodies.

It's taken me years to realise that my boundaries can be invisible to others and still be hugely effective!

Having boundaries doesn't mean I have to say 'no' to things (although I might want to say 'no' and that is a highly effective boundary).

This is what some of my self care boundaries look like:

* A habit of filling my water bottle in the morning and having it handy through the day
* Listening to my body when nature calls or if I am getting stiff and tight, I stand up or move around.
* Regular days off from work to relax and enjoy myself.

Drop me a 🧡 if one of these is your self care boundary or if you'd like one of them to be yours!

Do you lose your connection to your body at work?
I am thrilled to be hosting this event next week for Sourdough Business Women Ballina.
Violet @expand_and_impact will share her story and tools for maintaining self connection.
The evening will be a nourishing gathering @harvestnewrybar (you know the food will be great), local women and a focus on self care as a tool for resilience in business or at work.

Kids remind us that we change by feeling good.

So why, when it comes to our own self care do we think getting tough with ourselves is the way to make healthy new habits?

I have tried the hard road. Boot camp. Diets. Getting dizzy from hunger with a butt that worked so hard I couldn't sit down.

Thing is I always had to stop because it was too punishing, or I would get an injury, or get sick or get my period. And then I would give up.

Taking care of myself was something I would fit in after work somehow.

Then I became a mum and something had to give. Self care had to sustain me and exercise and eating well had to be something I could do on my worst day.

If you are ready to try Tiny Self Care and step into a new way of looking after yourself even while you are at work, head to my bio.

You will find my latest blog on how to start a new healthy habit and info on my Tiny Self Care Course.

We change by feeling good.

If you are like me, you have trouble deciding on what knew habit you need in your life!

There are so many to choose from: exercise and movement, drinking more water, eating enough veges, having a wind down routine at night...
to name a few.

If you get overwhelmed when trying to take steps towards your health goals here are two tip for you:

1. Focus on habits you really WANT to do, not those you think you SHOULD do! If you look at the list above and you feel excited by one habit over another, that's the habit to go for.

2. Find the tiniest version of that habit and commit to that. For example if your goal is to drink more water, commit to filling your water bottle every morning and having it handy throughout your day. That's it.

Tiny behaviours that we WANT to do give us quick wins that make us feel great and set us on a path to self care.
Want to start a new habit or healthy routine? Believe me I have mad all the mistakes!

That's why I want to share my new blog with you, my tips for starting a new habit.

Our habits make us who we are. You have habits whether you choose them or not. And they are guiding you towards or away from your goals.

My blog shows you how to get curious about your current habits (without self judgement) and how to zero in on the best new healthy habit FOR YOU.

If you think you might be too old, too busy or that it won't really work, catch your thoughts, they are your first focus. BECAUSE we change by feeling good, not bad.

Getting curious to change our self talk plus choosing new habits we REALLY want to do is all part of the approach.

We don't get strong and flexible with one Pilates class, the benefits layer on over time.

For the last 8 weeks I have been doing restorative Pilates and yesterday I got back to my full practice for the first time since injuring my back. I felt wobbly and everything felt hard, but I had no pain and I was able to finish. I know each time I practice this week it will get easier.

I am so grateful I have a movement practice I could rely on during my injury. Pilates really does have our backs!

Let's talk about setbacks. We all have them.

I recently hurt my back wrestling with my 7YO. I love playing rough with him and I don't want to stop, well not until he wants to. But I hurt my back badly and I had to go right back to basics with my Pilates practice.

Has something like that ever happened to you?

When I was about 14 years old I read the biography of Nancy Wake. Someone gave it to me and it BLEW MY MIND.
This NZ woman married a wealthy Frenchman, when WW2 broke out she became a saboteur, organiser and resistance fighter. She became the Gestpo's most wanted person and saved countless lives.

My adolescent rebellious heart was astounded at her courage, her fearlessness and her femininity.

Lest we forget, the sacrifices of many in the line of duty. War is not something I glorify but I am grateful for the inclusive place in which I live and I know that comes from the courage who have come before.

I hope we have the courage to create a world worthy of the next generation.
